Macau, 30 October 2019 — The 10th edition of MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker will take place this Saturdayat MGM COTAI. 650 teams are registered, and around 200 volunteers will assist throughout the event.
The MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker is the largest group-hiking event in Macau. The event is organized by Macau TrailHiker Ltd, title-sponsored by MGM, and supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and other government departments. This annual event is born out of a vision to organize a group based, eco-friendly sports event in Macau. This year, Macau TrailHiker successfully attracted 2,600 participants from a total of 650 teams. Participants will be challenging themselves and building their team spirit in courses from 10km Family & Fun Course, 20km and 30km corporate challenge. The race will start outside the Lion Lobby at MGM COTAI and participants will run along the nature trails in Coloane, exploring the greener side of Macau.
Reaching to its 10th anniversary, Macau TrailHiker strives to promote eco-friendly concept throughout the event. With the mindset of “Think Reusable, Not Disposable”, Macau TrailHiker becomes the first sports event that brings in reusable cups to the race in Macau and the participants of 20km and 30km events will have to bring their own hydration system for refilling at the water stations aside the trails. With implementing this eco-friendly measure, over 9,000 paper cups can be saved for the planet. Moreover, the Eco Teams have been recruited and the volunteers will assist on the trails to keep the environment clean and safe. Macau TrailHiker will continue to reduce their carbon footprint with the joint effort and contribution from title sponsor, event organizers and participants.
MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker has been proven to be a continuous success with teams coming regionally, ranging from Mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong to Malaysia. In the spirit of giving back to the community, MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker has accumulated nearly MOP$3M in donations for charity over the past nine years. This year, all net entry fees will be donated to the Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command and the Cradle of Hope Association to support their operations in Macau for the daily operational expense and upcoming projects. Both charity organizations will be participating in the event to further spread their message in the community.
